connecting laptop to my Artista 165E

Does anyone know any way I can connect my laptop, which only has USB ports, to my 165E which only has a 9pin port? I've tried the USB to serial cable, but laptop and sewing don't communicate. I'm wanting to buy the new Editor Lite software, but need to make this work first. Thanks.

Art to SHV

I am having trouble with my Designer Plus...I converted one of my designs (my very own, not someone else's) to SHV for a Viking a few days ago. The very next day, converting only gave me corrupted files with long diagonal lines in them.
Any ideas what might be happening? Am I screwing this up? Is there a known problem? A patch?
Any help is so appreciated!

art and jef files

I have a Janome 300e and bernina Artista 730e so have both Digitizer 10,000 and DesignerPlus V.5
Bernina software and Janome software are both made by Wilcom, so why can't my bernina software recognise jef files and vice versa.
To convert my files from jef to art I have to convert them to another file type then take them into a 3rd party software program to convert. Why wasn't jef files added to Portfolio?
