How much more advanced is Photoshop compared to GIMP? I've only used GIMP a few times and I'm wondering if it's worth purchasing Photoshop. Is there anyone who has used both that could give me a general comparison of the two?

Why don't you see if it's worth spending the money for Photoshop the GIMP I hear is free.

or check google for Photoshop vs GIMP

| I have GIMP and like I said, have used it a few times. I know I could download a demo of Photoshop to see generally what it's like, but not all the functions will be able to be used, since it's a demo version (correct me if I'm wrong on that). So, I won't be able to get the full gist of Photoshop from the Demo. That's why I'm asking if anyone has used both. I'm thinking this isn't the best place to ask it, but I figured since there was a topic for Photoshop, it couldn't hurt to ask anyways. :-) |

I have Photoshop, GIMP, and Jasc PSP 9. I use PSP the most in anything I do, but for more advanced things, Adobe Photoshop is really great, you're not restricted by sizes of brushes.
For me, GIMP isn't as good as Photoshop.
I have Photoshop CS3 Extended, because I can paint textures on .obj files. If you're not tech savvy, some things could through you with extended, but Photoshop has great documentation, tutorials all over the net, free brushes can be found on the net.
If you're just going to play around on the computer creating things, don't spend the money. GIMP does quite a bit. That's a lot of money to sink into something you may rarely use.
For me, I started with PSP, so that's my baby, they don't sell PSP9 any longer, Coral has other programs out there.
Good luck!

| I only use GIMP every now and then for simple things since I don't have any photo editing programs. I don't have time to learn GIMP, let alone photoshop. I was curious as to how much more advanced it is, but I suppose it doesn't matter since I wouldn't have time to learn all the features in it anyways. :-P Thanks for the post. :-) |
