I've spent lots of money and lots of time with a new White Embroidery Machine, the Ped-Basic Software, and the Monogram Wizard. I haven't been able upload the first stitch. I downloaded TrueSizer. When I click on the little file box on ped-basic, the program shuts off as if I had hit the off switch. I went to the brother web site and down loaded the newer verison of ped-basic but having the same problems.
I really wanted to be able to monogram a quilt for my daughter who will be graduating next Saturday from college. Right now, though, I'm ready to call it quits. Please help I'm very frustrated.

| I think you have the wrong idea about the PED Basic software. This product is ONLY for the transfer of an embroidery pattern to your machine using the .PES file format. There are six versions of .PES (that is a file extenstion, like ".exe" for an executable file in Windows). There are several types of embroidery files and different manufacturers use different file extensions. If you want to embroider a monogram, you will need to purchase an embroidery pattern of the specific letter and style you wish to monogram. I think you need to look at your machine's User Manual. My machine is a Brother PE 700 II, and I can monogram from the machine without using PED Basic at all (its only use is to download a file to transfer to your machine). On my Brother, I touch the LCD screen, the embroidery hoop (attached, filled with fabric and stabilizer) moves around, then I select the ICON on the LCD screen for monograms (it is just ABC on my machine). That brings up 9 choices of letter style. Each letter style can be upsized or downsized by selecting "large," "normal," or "small" once I've selected the type of font I want to use (font = design of the letter). I am not familiar with White embroider machines, but I expect that you will find the letters are already programmed in the machine and attaching the PED Basic is what is causing you problems--it is only for the purpose of downloading a file that is not already in you machine. I also have a combination embroidery/sewing machine that is the EuroPro brand. It also has built-in monogramming, but the procedure to load it is slightly different and it does not use an embroidery hoop. If you try to embroider something for the first time, you will first need to try it on a scrap of material that you can toss away. Embroidery by machine is fun, but it takes some learning first. You should hoop whatever you wish to embroider and back it with a stabilizer (there are several kinds of stabilizer and which kind you use depends on what your material is). I am almost certain that, if you refer to your manufacturer's USER MANUAL, you will find out how to change the dials or switches on your machine to bring up the letter or letters you wish to embroider. I'll be happy to help in any way I can. If you can state the Model No. for your machine, I have no doubt that there will be a User's Manual online and I can usually find the information someone needs right away from that alone. Sharon |

Sorry my first response downloaded twice...touchy computer. I looked at the White Embroidery machines that are availble for purchase now and there are several models, all of which have the monogramming preprogrammed inside the machine. The LCD screens appear to be the "touch" type. I am absolutely CERTAIN that you do not need the PED Basic (in fact, most of the newer White machines won't be using the .PES file format and that would make PED Basic useless--they are using the .DST file format and PED Basic does not recognize that). PED Basic has to be installed on your computer. If you check at the Brother website, the software version for PED Basic using Windows VISTA is only available for download to your computer there and the package I bought had a clear warning NOT TO INSTALL THE SOFTWARE included in the box if you are using VISTA. In fact, the upgrade for XP will require that you remove the software on the disk first as well. I think that may have something to do with why your software isn't working. The White machines that I'm seeing ALL have the monogramming letters already programmed INSIDE the machine--no need to do anything but select the style of font from the LCD screen. Something tells me you haven't read the User's Manual??? Sharon |
