I hope somebody can help me as I am having problems with my Wilcom software.
I am using ES 65 Version 7.1 on Windows XP. (I am a digitizer of 18 years by the way, starting off draughting then using a digitizing tablet on good old Melco systems!)
I was working normally one day last week when suddenly my computer just started to re-boot itself but then carried on re-booting itself for no reason whatsoever! It just keeps doing it over and over again not allowing me to even get back onto my desktop.
I had a support guy come and check it out for me and he advised a new PC(surprise surprise hey!).
After getting a new PC with XP Service pack2 on it and installing 7.1, it is still happening. My security dongle is NOT the USB type.
Got onto desktop by choosing 'go to a time when PC was working normally' but also got a message saying HASP driver not present or something along those lines!
It's driving me round the bend as I'm not able to do any work-can you please help?

Hello
You may have to consider upgrading really..because part of the problem maybe be that support for parallel port type dongles has mostly ceased with most co's.
From what you describe, it may be that the actual dongle now has a problem. (perhaps old age collapse..lol)

One other thing you can check, is whether that port is being detected. You may need a tech to run a few tests.

From what you describe, and because you've re-installed , it does seem that the dongle chipset you have , has developed some kind of internal problem, so you may need to check into getting a replacement..but Im not really sure about how that version is supported. Since the old dongles are now outdated for the most part, it may really require an upgrade..

If you had some other OS before XP, then you can contact wilcom or check the support site for Hasp drivers on XP...just to do final diagnostics on your prob..but if those fail..it'll probably require an upgrade.

I recently experienced a similar problem with my DGML dongle, however mine just stopped working altogether. Once upon a time it worked well on my old '98 and 2000 computers. Then I fitted it to the XP and all was well for a few months until it died.

Well, only thing to do was to 'upgrade' to ES45. Now that was a huge disappointment. It is slow, with a busy screen with junk lying around taking up valuable real estate in spite of my hiding most of the menus. The image is pixelated when zoomed in and I have lost a great many tools that I had been using with DGML.

I believe it would be an ideal tool for those starting into manual digitising. From what little I know or am able to find out, ES65 apparently has a few extra tools, but try getting information about it. It is very difficult.

The add-ons seem to be a bit of bling from what little I can find out. For example ES45 comes with 'point and stitch', which is one of the most useless bling accessories I have ever seen. I cannot figure what it is possibly used for, but then I digress.

The big thing that worries me is that to go to ES65 would set us back almost $6,000 AU to 'upgrade?'. I just can't justify that sort of money to get back to what I had in 1998.

Maybe someone here might have some knowledge on the ES65 and can set me straight. Any information would be appreciated.

Errol.

Errol,

I started with V8 ES and am curious, what tools you are looking for. I can't compare current tools ES65 to what you have had in 1998 but would, if I had any idea.

I still remember from magazines that I obviously just started when DG/ML was "layed off".

So if you would specify what you are looking for a little in depth, I would try to tell you, whether it can be done or not with current ES65.

Hi Barbara,

I lost 'User Defined Splits', 'Accordian Spacing', 'Contour Fill' (I have seen the Florentine, but it doesn't hold a candle to Curved Fill) and just on the spur of the moment, I can't recall the other few things that I had available. Some of the old features were rarely used, but it was comforting to know they were available when or if I needed them.

I have only had this system for a week now and it only becomes obvious when I am digitising particular jobs.

I have been in touch with Wilcom and they have given the impression that I may have to lose those features mentioned above unless I 'upgrade' at some considerable cost.

Are you aware of image issues with the ES45? I run four seperate computers and I am having the same problem with the pixelation on each of them, regardless of Ram or video capabilities.

Thank you in advance for any information you might be able to provide.

Errol.

Hi Errol,

further to what you were informed by Wilcom I can give you following info:

I don't have any image problems in terms of pixelation. I have a smooth look either in digitizingmode or true view on different PC. Also my customers never complained about "pixelation". If you want to change the look of the True View you can to so under special/option/view design/TrueView. Did you calibrate your monitor(s)? (special/hardware setup/display monitor/values)
User defined split comes with ES65 and is not available as single option in ES2006 to any other level.
Contour fill: you should have it available (some buttons right of Satin stitch) when you are using either Input A, B or C is ES2006 level 45
Accordian spacing comes with ES65 but is available as purchase option to
ES2006 level 45.

Sorry to say, but V 7.1 is much older than XP and most probably you either need an old piece of hardware or upgrade the SW. I doubt that your SW will run under XP at all. The current version is ES 2006 but the next version is announced already. Best you can do is to contact your Wilcom rep for help.

Hi,

Have you tried to purge your Backup and recover directories?
The software may be trying to open a corrupted file and causing you some grief.
Your 7.1 shoud run on XP  See Machine compatibility at www.wilcom.com.au/support

To purge you directories In you startup menu in the Wilcom suite you will see  under tools  and option to Purge Recovery.  Make sure you select Delete Backup Files.

This may help, I hope so.

Let us know how you go

John

Hi John,

thank you for correcting this issue.

Shellpul, please take my apologies for misleading you. That was definitely not my intention.
I hope, John's tips will work out on your new system.

Herminia,
if you do so, you are a thief!!! Downloading cracked software is theft !
As beginner it does not make any difference whether you start with an older version or the latest but you should care to work with a legal license.
