Anyone having tips on how to make sphere-like objects like balls or marbles? I would love to make use of the 3Dtool but I want the stiches to form a smooth surface and not with patterns, hope someone understands what I´m looking for.

Hi Martin,
did you try the Florentine or Liquid fill tool for Tatami Stitches instead of patterns with 3D effect? That's, what I am doing for dimensional looking balls etc.

yes, thats what I´m doing now too, but I´m looking for even more sphere-like effects.
I´ve experimented with making a tatami circle and make a motif out of it and apply 3 D after.

| Hi Martin,
I do it slightly different. First duplicate the Tatami ball, then apply the changes (Motif fill + 3D) to the second object sitting exactly on top of the first one.
You have the coverage and the dimensional effect. Works with contrasting colors as well as a slightly darker tone for the 2nd object compared to the bottom one.

| ok, do you use any motif in particular? The ultimate ballshape must come from mixing 3D with accordion. |

Hi Martin,
once I digitized an gulfball using Tatami fill with Liquid effect as first layer full density (could have shaded two objects with color merge) and on top, a little darker for the duplicate I used a self-made motiv, a circle with 3D which gave dimension and the impression of the little holes in the surface of the gulf ball
Sorry, I don't know how to post a jpg or how to attach an EMB file for better understanding. (Any hint, how to manage it)

It seems you may be stuck on the idea of utilizing some fancy stitch affect to achieve the illusion of "sphericalness"........ I.E. thereby somehow coaxing the TEXTURE of the stitching to somehow achieve this and doing so with only one thread colour.......
(This is possible i guess if you want to do geometic stitch patterns with cris crossing lines ETC.... but to what effect? A very limited application have these geometric stitch effects..... and they are generally ugly to boot. Your not doing this design for Buckminster Fuller! LOL)
Where as i would say that the defining quality of "sphericalness" (from an obviously 2 dimesional perspective) is TONE not TEXTURE.
You dont even need to relate this back to embroidery to see that what i am saying, and to realise that it is so.
even one darker blended crescent shape along the bottom right hand of the ball and a highlighted "dot" on the opposite side will give you an excellent sphere..........

| I agree, most of the time its "tone over texture" but once in a while you cant get your customer to understand that embroidery isn´t like printing and then its good to have an alternative.
