Hi Designmaster130, a rule of thumb when I digitize is the more stretch a fabric has the less dense my cover stitches wil be, but denisity is not everything. Trial and error is the best teacher IMHO together with training from people/tutorials who explain digitizing techniques. Did you ever think about to take lessons? In the training section you can find an ATC (Wilcom Authorized Training Center) next to you. There are also online-classes available. And there are many other tutorials out (books/CD/DVD), you will find them by doing a google search. When I started embroidery I also had the same whish/question than you asked and I couldn't understand, why no one could give me fixed settings - so I tried myself and by collecting a lot of experience this way I now know, why you can't give any fixed settings, there are too many variables in a design/fabric/backing/thread - to learn to digitize good running and good looking designs is not done in a few minutes, you must invest your time in collecting your own experience. To make a start, why not take a denim and digitize an rectangle for example, duplicating it several time and assigning different densities, stitch length, underlay etc and test stitch it? You will see the difference and decide what is good looking and running. You can do that with other fabrics too. It will give you an idea how you can set your values in your designs.
