| I am digitizing a golf ball and want to use a very light fill for the main section of the golf ball because of the fabric it will be stitched on. I would like to use the tatami underlay but it stitches two big lines right where I don't want it to. Is there anyway to control this?
Thanks.

JoJo,
Perhaps you simply need to change the angle of the underlay, or the start and stop points of the fill. I usually use a cross hatch tatami underlay - setting of 45 on first pass and 135 on second pass. This is the best underlay pattern for most fills. Stitch lengths are typically 4 mm. If this doesn't work you can e-mail me the file and I'll have a look.

Rich,
Thank you very much! I moved the start and stop and now I only have one of those lines. I feel silly now but I never thought of doing a cross hatch tatami fill. Thank you for the setting numbers. I used it and it looks much better! The additional underlay hide that extra line perfectly.

Use your trapunto with the tatami stitch. This would eliminate the underlaying lines it otherwise creates

| Maritha,
That works for the fill but the extra lines are being created by the actual tatami underlay. When I click on trapunto, it only affects the fill not the actual underlay ... unless I'm doing something wrong... |

Jojo,
to eliminated these travel runs in the underlay portion of Tatami-Trapunto objects, duplicate the original object (for hatch type underlay twice) and then increase the stitch density as well as the stitch angle of the first (and second) object. Have Trapunto assigned but no automatic underlay in all 2 resp. 3 objects sitting on top of each other. Usually a uncheck the pull comp of the underlay objects. You also may want control trims between those objects by connecting them with a travel run following the edge of the object.

Oh, oh,
I just read my mail and noticed that I wrote "then increase the stitch density " - shame on me, it must read "then DECREASE the stitch density" of course - sorry for this.
