I have a 5 point star that is 35Wx 37H and need to fill this in with sequin. What would be the easiest way to do this. Any suggestions?

hi

It can perhaps be fully filled, or some kind of pattern..like in the pic.

Alternately..what you could do is...check with your local fabric store..some now have rolls of fabric with sequins..you might find something you like..and then, you can just applique that, and that should give you a great filled star. Applique is much faster in most cases..but if you have to have it fully filled, thats around 7000-8000 st.

Thanks for the suggestions but my question should have read different. I want to digitize this into the design. I work with Wilcom 65 v2006 so I should be able to do this. The question is how do I digitize this the fastes way to fill it. The star is not that big either so that does not make it easy either.

hi

Okies..I was thinking like 35 CM..lol...35mm is quite small..This is just with 5mm..but you can probably get a better result with the smaller sequins.

Thats quite small..This is the only real way I can think of to fill it with sequins..

bye

Perhaps not the most brilliant idea working with tiny sequins...but maybe possible for you

Well I see you are not sitting still and that star is getting a work-out. I have tried it like this last one as well as many other ways but the star is really too small to get something nice out of it.
Well it all comes down to what the customer likes the best anyway. But I think I would advise the previous look.

hello

Yes , that is very small..and not very practical to actually 'fill' fully.

There are special kinds of thin , flossy holding threads..and the straight sequin lockstyle which is really best for tiny sequins..because any kind of triangular type usually damages those, if just using ordinary embroidery rayons...The penetrations just break/damage the small sequins. Most places seem to stick to 5mm sequins on average.

I was just experimenting at around 3am..

Its ok to play if its for a once off design for s single client, but generally for production stuff, sequin designs need to be thought out well. I know many instances where textile designers just do their own thing and try to indicate sequins in weird places and some co's that try to please clients actually end up doing cost prohibitive runtimes. Most sequin stuff here averages out at 1000 piece minimums so generally has to be done in a way that best suits the processes.

bye

Well I did the design with the simple fill of coming from each point. and there were 2 more stars just a tiny bit smaller than the first one and 3 very tiny stars that when I put 1 sequin in the center the whole star was filled. Well that was not the only thing each of the big stars had their own sequin color as well. So this is definitely not a design for big runs. Because after running 12 - 16 Sequin I needed to change rolls and thread, but it looks nice.

I normally use a matching color thread with the sequin but is there a special thread for multi-colored sequin that takes up the color of the changing sequin color?

hi
Im not sure what threads you have there..but if you try the dayglo..or glow- in -the- dark types, you might find theres a transparent kind of one..it looks similar to a really thin fishing line type of thread...so, in light or dark, you have an effect. I wouldn't say it takes on the color of the sequin..but depending on the colors you have, you may be able to create a great effect in differing light..Its a very fun novelty thread..In fact, I was listening to some talk about a similar effect on actual sequins soon..theres always someone thinkin of something..so, you may be able to get some glow+shimmer effect soon..A friend of mine saw something that was done by hand..but no commercial reels yet.

Thing to note to client- that thread effect is not permanent..and after a while, it fades to just that transparent look..but that doesnt affect your embroidery in any way.

Hi Maritha, hi Nevi,

I use to use Monofil thread, looks also like very thin fishing line and usually comes in light and "smoke" transparent. I also have a variety of 10 main colors, which is available from Pearl Yacht (Japan). But the transparent thread does a good job for all my holographic sequins, even a matt gold one looked good attached with the light transparent monofil.

The top tension is a bit of a problem. Unfortunaetly it often happens that the thread slips out of the needle - so better digitize in one go as far as possible. I use to stop before the sequins start and hold the thread manually - I know, that's nothing for a greater number of production. In that case I probably would convert to 60wt or 40 wt embroidery thread with a matching color.
