Wilcom Software use the emb files. It's an outline file (condensed) format, contain digitized shapes & lines, stitch type, stitch values & effects etc...

A Stitch File (Machine format) contain only stitches & machine function(s) these would be your DST, EXP, etc...

ES, DecoStudio, TrueSizer use EMB files as the native format.

But actually, it's more than an outline file (condensed) format. EMB is better described as an "all-in-one" format, which contains both outlines AND stitches/functions.

A traditional outline/condensed format (e.g. Melco CND) doesn't contain stitches
And stitch formats (e.g. Melco EXP) don't contain outlines

EMB contains both stitches and outlines all-in-one, as ES was designed so that you can do both outline editing and stitch editing with the same program and same file type.
