When I try to install Deco, I keep getting a WArchive.exe error which stops installation and kicks me clear out.  Wilcom support hasn't seen this problem before; Microsoft says this is a software installation problem and they can't help me.  The computer is an XP pro, and it came with my embroidery machine (used from a friend who was successfully running Compucon on it before I bought it).  Minimal requirements are more than met; windows service pack 3 installed....  Any advice?  Anyone?  Please?

I might be able to help. But what exactly is the error message?

(p.s. for most message boxes, you can press "Ctrl+C" to copy the whole error message frin the nessage box, then press "Ctrl+V" to paste it into your post).

I can't cut and paste, because it's on a different computer - no internet connection available on that one - sorry. The error says: "WArchive.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."

I am given an option to "debug" - but choosing this simply closes the error window, exits installation, and goes back to the desktop. I searched for each file named WArchive.exe. After receiving this message many, many times, I deleted all the WArchive files. Made no difference. I get the same message. When I search, there is a new file with that name - created each time I try to install.

Tech support asks if there's an old version of Corel on this computer. I'm not familiar with the computer's history, but I did a search. Looks like there are some Adobe filter files having Corel as part of the name - but I don't see any Corel products on the computer.

I'd rather not buy a new computer. I don't like Vista - and all the stitch files I purchased with the company are on the computer I purchased from them. I borrowed her Compucon dongle to test the computer - it still works fine. There is a ton of free memory, plenty of ram - far more than minimal requirements for install.

Unfortunately, I've never seen that error either. My guess is that has something to do with your temp folder.

Try this first:
- clean up as much of your temp folder as possible
- reinstall DecoStudio

If the problem persists, there's another possible solution BUT you'll need to have CorelDRAW X4 (or install it from somewhere). If you do:
- ensure that your CorelDRAW X4 is the latest version (at least SP2)
- create a temporary folder (say, "C:\DSImage")
- copy the entire contents of the DecoStudio DVD to C:\DSImage EXCEPT for the COREL folder (do not copy the corel folder!)
- run the setup.exe from "C:\DSImage" to install DecoStudio

This workaround is only good if you have CorelDRAW X4 already installed. If you don't have it, try contacting Wilcom Support, they may be able install CorelDRAW X4 for you from the DecoStudio DVD.
