So I've been on the phone with support and sales regarding the fact that I have been unable to get DS to create a usable zigzag stitch for applique. When the design is stitched out the zigzag stitch overlaps the edge of the applique so badly that the result is unusable. The sales folks that demoed DS for me said it could do zigzag applique, the manual and tutorials say it and do zigzag applique but according to tech support it can't. Now if I had bought Level 1 I could do it but so far there has been no fix or workaround and I am stuck with an expensive piece of software that doesn't do what I was told it could. I am still in the process of trying to get an answer from Wilcom about this (it's been 3-4 weeks now) but it's not looking good. Has anyone else run into this problem and if so what did you do to fix it or work around it?

Greg,
Thanks for the reply. Just so we are clear I fully understand how to make a zigzag outline in DS, the problem is that the zigzag uses the same offset as the satin outline which means the edge of the zigzag sticks way over the outside edge of the applique resulting in a terrible final result. If you are saying that you can adjust this then I'll be happy to send you the file. Let me know if we are talking about the same thing or not. Thanks.

Hi Stitchgear,
There are a couple of ways of adjusting the offset of the Appliqué. The Appliqué is really created with your line tools (Run, Input C, etc...). You can also adjust your Appliqué size (the Cut size in the Graphic Mode). The easy way to do this is (a little trick) to break the appliqué apart so you have them as a Run object and input C object(s). Then you can convert them to any other line object(s). So make a copy of the run stitch that was created for your appliqué placement then while the run object is selected click your input C tool (or right click the object and select Convert to Input C). This will prompt you to defined the width of you column instead of defending the width with your left mouse button use your right mouse button this will create the offset from the line. Then you can delete the old coverage stitch object. Let me know if this helps.
I may make a video of this for my website www.AdvancedWilcom.com

Greg,
I'm encouraged by the thought of a workaround but you lost me at step one. How do I break the applique apart? When I create an applique it gives me several objects that don't seem to allow me to break them apart. I get an outline, a tack down (which I don't need and know how to remove), and the zigzag stitch. How do I break those apart? Sorry to seem clueless but I hadn't really explored the applique functions until now.

Greg,
I tried to attach a sample file of what I'm looking at but it didn't work so I'm trying again. This should be an .emb file with just an applique letter.

Hi Joe,
Here the edited file back. if you had more than 1 Appliqué you can use the Combine Appliqué Components and this will also brake it apart as shown on the top 2 A. When an object is selected try right clicking to bring up a menu, you can also right an object from your Color-Object List.
