I am having lots of trouble bringing image files (JPEG, TIFF, etc.) into my 4D software.  They look great until the last step, then the design looks terrible and does not stitch out properly.

This should be easy!  What am I doing wrong?  I want to be able to bring in pre-designed images, or images I design myself using other programs like Photo Shop of Flexi Sign.  Or just to take JPEG logos and stitch them out.

Are you wanting to do the digitising into embroidery automatically or are you using the manual tools. It you want to use the automatic functions you need a very clear and clean graphic, using the manual tools means that you use the graphic as a backdrop and the finished embroidery is as good or bad as the operator. You sound as though you are proficient with graphics programmes so you should be able to produce a good graphic for 4D but the automatic embroidery is different from the manual way which takes practise to perfect. Your dealer who sold you 4D should be able to offer lessons.

Thanks for answering. Yes, I thought I could simply import the file (TIFF for example), then stitch it out. I use the design wizard to open the image files, set up a few parameters then it creates the design automatically. Guess I'll have to learn more about using the manual tools.

After much frustration, I have tried to create some simplier things using the text tools. I added a font to my Windows font file (ClarendonBlack). Even that did not come out right. It seems the only things that work are those which are already created within the system, or designs that can be purchased.

This is the first embroidery program I've tried to use. It seems great for doing hobby stuff with flowers, or pre-designed stuff resident within 4D. But in my opinion, the other features were way over-sold. Haven't tried to stitch out any photos, but I can only imagine how that would turn out.

Is there a program out there that can convert graphic files to high quality embroidery files automatically?

No, not really. It's like all things, there is a skill that has to be learned. Automatic digitising is OK if you want something very simple and can produce the correct graphic for it but for anything even a little complicated you need to learn to digitise properly and before that make sure you know the relationship of needle to thread to fabric as well as knowing how and when to add stabiliser and topping. As for lettering, Husqvarna has a good lettering programme that is part of 4D, with fonts ready to use and Quick Font allows you to make the fonts from any TTF on your computer but even that has limits and you need to choose a font that will work. There is the Font Digitising package in 4D Pro which is very good once you know how to use it but it seems complicated to begin with. Photo stitching is another whole different thing altogether and there are several ways of doing it but you really need a little experience to get good results. Family Portrait is yet another Husqvarna software package that does photo's and can be an add-on to 4D Pro or a stand alone package.

hi
You might want to take a look at I-Cliqq.
www.i-cliqq.com

The demo software releases shortly..Dinking with software is always fun.

Embroidery design really requires practice, and developed skills. Most people get fooled with marketing talk, but no software just converts graphics into high quality embroidery files (as you have discovered..Software needs the direction of a skilled user. Different software suits different levels of requirements, and it depends on how far you really intend to go wth software. If intending to be a business, then it may be a bit different from hobby levels of software. You'll find you need to be more creative , and learn a lot of procedures to digitize etc.

As you seem to have discovered, many packages can claim to do fantastic stuff, but reality is a bit different when you get around to the actuality of things. Not every software will have what you need, so you need to check what kinds of features would suit you best. The biggest myth,is probaby about just keying in a few parameters, and out pops the finished, productive design. Nothing is further from the truth in a high % of such attempts.

It seems I'm having a problem on pages (not project pages) where I am able to upload images using the file cabinet okay but they do not show up once inserted ...
