Hi there,
It seems Embird was not developed for Vista... according to their site they are testing it at the moment.
Here are some tips for getting your Embrid software working on Vista:
Before installing Embird in Vista do the following:
1. Log-in to your PC with Administrator privileges. 2. Temporarily switch OFF all anti-virus software. 3. Select "Start > Settings > Control Panel" menu. 4. Click "User Accounts" icon in the dialog box which appears on the screen. 5. Click "Turn User Account Control on or off" link. 6. Switch OFF the "Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer". 7. Click "OK" button to confirm this new setting and agree with Windows restarting. 8. Install Embird as explained in our tutorial. 9. Enable your anti-virus software.
Once Embird is successfuly installed, please follow these steps:
1. Aways run Embird 2006 with Administrator privileges. 2. Move mouse pointer to the icon of the Embird 2006 on the Desktop and click right mouse button for popup menu. 3. Select "Properties" command from the popup menu. 4. A dialog box will appear on the screen. Choose "Compatibility" tab. 5. Switch ON the checkbox "Run this program in compatibility mode" and choose "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" 6. Click "OK" button to confirm this new setting.

HI, I have been having trouble trying to get the free copy to work. I ran it fine a few times and now it won't. I will try to follow the above. Thanks Brenden. I am new to embroidery but I am finding that I would like to get some type of programe that I can do a little bit of digitsing. I do not want to pay thousands. Is that what Embird will give me. Is the programme easy to use. Ihaven't had a lot of time to play as yet. I have a Janome 10001 and I have read on american forums that the digitising software isn't great. Would Embird be a good starting programme. I am feeling a little bewildered and overwhelmed trying to understand a lot of it. Any suggestions are most welcome |

No way, Janome's digitizing software is vastly superior to Embird!!!
Then again, I'm not sure exactly which Janome software you mean (there's a few) or which forum you're referring to, but Embird isn't really a digitizing program. Embird is more of a "customizer" which lets you edit and convert existing designs, but not really digitize them.
Janome DigitizerPro V2.0 is a real digitizing program, where you can create designs from scratch or from image files. Janome is easy-to-use with a very pretty user interface, Wilcom's patented stitch processor, and supports direct connect to your MC10001 which makes it simple for you because you don't need to get or run any other programs to actually stitch out (as far as I know, direct connect to MC10001 is exclusive to Janome software).
So for you MC10001, I would definitely suggest Janome DigitizerPro over Embird any day!
(oh yeah, and Janome DigitizerPro V2.0 officially supports Vista too)
