Hello all,
I have a question that I'm hoping someone can answer, or at least lead me in a direction to find the answer.
I found a cute graphic in Microsoft Clipart that I would like to digitize. Does anyone know if this is legal? I don't want to sell the design, I just want to digitize it and put it on a shirt that a bowling team has ordered.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What an interesting thread and very good question!
I did a quick search as I am interested in this myself and I found a Microsoft site that outlines terms and conditions of using MS Clipart:

Sadly it seems you are quite limited to what you can use it for. Below is a quote from the site above:

A social bowling group you would imagine would fit into the personal/non commercial use category.....
But if you became a pro team and were drawing an income from you bowling then it becomes a pseudo profession and then this would then be in breech of this condition...
If its only social then it should not be a problem then???
But then again doing up alot of shirts for others is not exactly a personal use is it?
And if you are selling them then this is a definite breech......
I can see how you could get a little confused....... |

| I'd think as soon as anyone profits (money exchanged) from the use of the clipart, that clipart has now become commercial use and is no longer personal use. So, in my humble opinion, if you digitize the design, sew it, and sell the shirts and embroidery to the bowling team, then its a commercial use. I'm not sure I agree with David... seems like a stretch to me:-) |

| Thanks for the feedback everyone. I've decided to stay away from MS clipart. I'll have to find another source for graphics. Any ideas? |

| You need an embroidery software and digitize the design either manually or with automatic features. Did you consider DecoStudio e1 from Wilcom/Corel? |

| If you have th software and paid for it ,then I am sure that you can use the design for whatever you want. I use stuff from www.clipart.com and Corel and Photoshop and any other source that I can. You bought the rights when you paid your money for whatever use . |

 There are a good many sites online that will digitize for you fairly cheaply,too. just type in free embroidery digitizing in your search bar.... |
