OK, I'm reposting this where it belongs. Sorry about the mispost.

Not sure this is the right place for this. My question is, How hard is it to set up direct networking between Es 7.1 and a tajima tmfx-c904. We recently purchaced a used one and would like to use a direct connection instead of the floppys. Any help would be welcome.

I'm new to this list. I've had over 20 yrs in the decorated apparel industry. I've used Melcos AMAYAs and older machines in other places I've worked and liked the convenience of the networking they used. I also have many years screen printing as well and hope to one day combine the two but thats a little further ahead. Right now it's just getting used to the sowtware and machine.

Thanks to all who answer.

Mark

P.S. I've figured out that I need a cable. Anyone know where to find one? Also any Machine settings? and does any one actually use a direct connection instead of floppys? and is it more convenient?

Thanks again

Mark

We're using direct connection with a standard serial connector from the PC to the machine.  You should be able to pick them up anywhere. Depends, I suppose on your PC, as to whether you need a USB connection or a serial connection from your PC.  I think, with the age of your machine, that it will probably be a serial connector to the computer head (underneath the floppy drive)

We also use the same machine that you have.  The only problem that I can see, using direct connection, is that the design can't be traced out before embroidering.  The trace function only works using a floppy disk.  While we've worked around this mainly by using scrupulous measurements and centering of the first needle, I have to admit that with a design that fills the hoop, it's quite an entertaining experience with finger poised over the emergency stop button! If it's a really marginal call, we simply run with a larger hoop size. This can, however, affect the final stitch out quality.

The advantage is not having to convert the design from EMB to DST to stitch out the design - the Stitch Manager function does it all straight from the design, once you've set up the software to your hardware.  Again it's easy - thank goodness for the ES user guide!
