You've peaked my interest because we recently discussed how we are going to deal with floppies when they are no longer available "readily".  I have a 6 head SWF, Brother 1 & 3 head machines (all use 3.5 floppies).

I'm assuming the USB conversion would allow flash memory sticks to be used or somehow network cables?

Can you please elaborate on the concept?

I have a Tajima TMEX C901 1996 model with a NEC FD1138C 3.5" floppy drive which has a 26 pin interface instead of the normal 34 pin interface. Is there a usb floppy emulator available for this machine? I heard a rumour that a floppy emulator for a Tajima TMFX might work.

@yogisaw In most cases it is as simple as removing the floppy drive and and plugging in the USB drive. I did have to work with my vendor on a couple of the USB drives to get the correct dip switch settings but they are virtually plug and play. They DO NOT work correctly in Brother machines but I have had no problems with installing in 4 Tajima's and 5 Barudan's. Everything loads just like it was a floppy disk, super easy.

Not to take anything away from the original poster but I purchased all mine through www.Sewmanyparts.com, Customer service and support is second to none, Talk to Rob!

DO NOT PURCHASE through The Embroidery Warehouse or PLR Electronic. They are sister companies and have the worst customer service you can ever imagine.

@yogisaw  There may be some videos on youtube already.  I have one on there but it is showing a problem when installing the USB on a Brother machine.

The Barudans are a little more work to take apart to get to the floppy drive but it is still really easy.

1. Unplug the machine from any power.

2. Disconnect all cables from the control head.

3. remove the plastic covers (4 screws on the back)

4. remove 2 screws from the bracket that holds the floppy drive.

5. Disconnect cables from Floppy drive.

6. remove floppy drive from holding bracket

7. Mount USB drive in holding bracket and plug cables into USB Drive

8. Reinstall Holding bracket with USB

9. Put the plastic covers back on.

10. Plug everything back in.

11.  Turn machine on and load files from USB flash drive stick.

This is a really easy install but remember you are doing this at your own risk.  Listed above was the procedure on my particular Barudan machines and yours may be a little different.
